The Department of Telecom (DoT) insisted on BSNL, State-owned operator not to use Chinese equipment in 4g upgrade throughout India.

DoT guidelines to avoid Chinese Equipment

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited  (BSNL) would follow the DoT guidelines to upgrade the 4G Infra in-country, DoT also suggested the private telcos Airtel, Vodafone Idea which has a fair large market share to avoid using Chinese equipment or have fewer dependencies on those.

Recently BSNL had planned using ZTE, Chinese network solution provider for the up-gradation and floated tenders, and worked out, But after recent encounters with China, BSNL considers total reworking of tender and decides upon the moves.

Huwai is been alleged for snooping found by the United States, Which brought a total ban on Huwai along with 70 other Chinese affiliated companies. Certain companies like Alibaba are exempted and not considered a security threat.
